★★★★½ "Not your average 'nature doc'" - Stuff.
High up on the Tibetan plateau, among unexplored and inaccessible valleys, lies one of the last sanctuaries of the wild world where rare and undiscovered fauna lives. Vincent Munier, one of the world's most renowned wildlife photographers, takes the adventurer and novelist Sylvain Tesson (In the Forest of Siberia) with him on his latest mission. For several weeks, they'll explore these valleys searching for unique animals and try to spot the snow leopard, one of the rarest and most difficult big cats to approach.
★★★★ "Besides the stunning, stirring camerawork, "Queen" one-ups other adventure docs with its meditative quality..." - San Jose Mercury News
"Gorgeous, humbling, looking out-, up- and inward, the documentary "The Velvet Queen" is the rare nature film about not only beauty and beasts but also the very human urge to make sense of our place in it all." - LA Times
"Quietly spellbinding" "A lovely, unexpected screen ode to the little-seen feline" - Variety
Wellington Zoo is excited to present an exclusive screening of The Velvet Queen at Light House Cinema Cuba on Sunday May 29th at 5.30pm.
A portion from each ticket sold for this screening will be donated to the building of the new Snow Leopard habitat at Wellington Zoo. In this space, people will have the opportunity to learn about the important role Snow Leopards play in the environment, and what actions they can take to protect this amazing big cat species. We hope you can join us for this special fundraising event. To learn more about the project and donate you can visit the Wellington Zoo website HERE
