The Christophers
- All Sites: 04 Jun 2026
The latest film from one of cinema’s most prolific directors, Steven Soderbergh (Black Bag, Ocean’s Eleven), The Christophers is a richly comedic exploration of art and legacy led by a magnetic paring of Ian McKellen and Michaela Coel (Mother Mary).
Close to completely giving up on her artistic career, Lori (Coel) works out of a food truck whenever she’s not doing freelance restoration. But when she gets approached by the estranged children of renowned painter Julian Sklar (McKellen) with an offer to forge his abandoned paintings so they can collect the inheritance once he passes, she accepts. Ingratiating herself into Julian’s life under the guise of being an assistant, Lori’s ruse makes way for a constant battle of wits, twists, and shifting allegiances as they delve into deviousness to reveal thorny truths about artistic integrity.
"The double act of McKellen and Coel has the onscreen chemistry of the year"
